Richard “Dick” Allen Hopper, 75, of Woonsocket, passed away Sunday, Oct. 18, 2015, at Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket.
Visitation was held at Basham Funeral Home in Woonsocket from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, with a Celebration of Life at 7 p.m. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
Richard Hopper was born April 5, 1940, to Ivan and Margaret (Peterson) Hopper in Huron. He graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1958. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Merriman on Aug. 12, 1961, and was divorced in 1981.
Dick was a farmer most of his life and enjoyed helping local farmers by driving grain cart and hauling silage. At one time he had the top producing herd of registered brown Swiss milk cows in South Dakota. He had a passion for fishing and hunting with friends and family. He also took great pride in his gardening and fruit trees.
Grateful for sharing in his life are his daughters, Jody (Patrick) Hehn of Hillsboro, Ore., Dawn (Joel) Rassel of Woonsocket, and Menetta (Justin) Rassel of Fulton; six grandchildren; brother, Howard (Delrita) of Watertown; sister, Norma (Lewis) Patterson of Howard; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Hopper of Arizona and Betty Hopper of Illinois; and his very special friend and companion for many years, Judy Kindle of Woonsocket.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Robert (Bob); brother, Donald; sister-in-law, Joan Hopper; and one niece and one nephew.
