Betty J. “Bubbles” McBride, 76, of Huron, passed away Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.
Her funeral service was Saturday, Sept. 3, at First Presbyterian Church in Huron with burial in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family present was Friday, Sept. 2, at Welter Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and also one hour prior to the service at the church.
Betty was born Sept. 30, 1939, on the family farm north of Huron to Sam K. and Lydia (Tschetter) Wipf. She attended Fairfield No. 4 School until the eighth grade, attended high school in Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1957.
She was united in marriage to Morris Herdman in 1959 in Huron. She later married Claire McBride at First Presbyterian Church in Wessington on Jan. 25, 1986.
Betty enjoyed camping, traveling and wintering in Texas with Claire. She cherished her time with family, watching her grandchildren play in sporting events. She also loved to cook, play dominos and watch the Minnesota Twins, Chicago Cubs and high school basketball games. Betty was active at First Presbyterian Church, VFW Auxiliary and the Huron Area Senior Center.
She is survived by her husband, Claire of Huron; one son, Dale (Debra) Herdman of Wessington; three daughters, Loretta (Steve) Krick of Huron, Rita (Tim) Katz of Woonsocket, and Diana Herdman of Huron; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Wipf of Huron, and Peter (Cheryl) Wipf of Nicholasville, Ky.; two sisters, Lilly Kern of Olivia, Minn., and Lorraine Kleinsasser of Wessington; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Stephanie Beigh; two twin grandsons, Jay and Joshua Herdman; five sisters, Ruby Kleinsasser, Evelyn Maas, Susie Pullman, Anna Friesen and Katherine Wipf; and three brothers, John Wipf, Clifford Wipf and Sam L. Wipf.
