Darwin Eugene Roti, 84, passed away under hospice care at Prairie View Community Healthcare, Woonsocket, on June 11, 2016.
Funeral services will be Thursday, June 16 at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Woonsocket. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 15 with the family present from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Basham Funeral Service, Woonsocket, and one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Eventide Cemetery, Woonsocket, with military rites.
Darwin Eugene Roti was born Oct. 28, 1931, in Woonsocket, to Albert and Jewel (Hosher) Roti. He attended school in Woonsocket, where he played basketball and football, graduating in 1949. He attended Dakota Wesleyan University and received a degree in business administration.
On April 12, 1953, he was united in marriage to Patricia Moses in the Methodist Church in Woonsocket. From 1953 to 1955, he served in the U.S. Army, stationed at the Hanford Nuclear site in Washington State.
In 1955, the couple returned to Woonsocket, where Darwin was involved with the family business, Woonsocket Produce. In 1959, he became associated with Sanborn County Bank, eventually serving as president with a career spanning 30 years.
Darwin served in the Woonsocket National Guard Unit, was a volunteer fireman for many years and also served as a layperson at the Woonsocket United Methodist Church. He was currently a member of First United Methodist Church in Mitchell, where he and Pat had lived since 1997.
Darwin was an avid golfer and he and Pat enjoyed many winters in Arizona. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s activities.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of 63 years; son, Tim of Sioux Falls; daughter, Chris, and husband Brad Selland of Letcher; three grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Mike Randall; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws; sister, Jan Randall; brother, Jim Roti; and brother-in-law, Ronnie Moses; and one grand niece, Megan Schardin.
