Robert J. Mitzel, 64, of Yale, died Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.
His Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, Aug. 1, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron with burial in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Yale. Visitation with the family present was Sunday, July 31, at the Welter Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the funeral mass at the church.
Bob was born on Nov. 2, 1951, in Aberdeen to Richard and Mardine (Crogan) Mitzel. He attended school in Huron and graduated from Huron High School in 1970. After high school, Bob enlisted in the South Dakota Army National Guard and served for seven and one-half years.
He was united in marriage to Marilyn Maas on Nov. 18, 1972, in Yale. Over the years, Robert worked for Peshel’s Meat Market in DeSmet, Armour’s, Swift Packing Plant, Dakota Pork, Yale Co-op, and most recently, Ellwein Brother’s, Inc., in Huron. He enjoyed sports, fishing, hunting, golfing and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish.
Robert is survived by his wife, Marilyn Mitzel of Yale; two sons, Tim (Tracy) Mitzel and Robbie (Erin) Mitzel, all of Sioux Falls; four grandchildren; two brothers, James (Voncille) Mitzel of Corryton, Tenn., and Thomas (Evelyn) Mitzel of Woonsocket; three sisters, Theresa (Joel) Horn of Huron, Vickie Mitzel of Huron, and Karen (Tony) Broderson of Wolsey; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
