Delmar John Wittenhagen, 84, of St. Cloud, Minn., died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016, at St. Cloud Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Services will be held in early spring in St. Cloud and burial will be in Grace Cemetery at Rockham. Funeral arrangements were by Benson Funeral Home in St. Cloud.
Delmar was born May 3, 1932, in Epiphany, to William “Bill” and Kathryn (Scheuren) Wittenhagen. In 1943, the family moved to Carthage. Delmar graduated from Carthage High School in 1950. He later enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego, Calif., Hawaii and Midway Island. After four years in the Navy, he returned to South Dakota and enrolled at Northern State University in Aberdeen. With a business degree, he began a 35-year career at the Nash Finch Co., beginning at Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1960.
He married Joyce Michels on July 4, 1958, in Redfield.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce of St. Cloud, Minn.; daughters, Natalie Jo (Steve) Shaffer of Buffalo, NY., and Stacey Ann Wade of Eagan, Minn.; three grandchildren; brother, James Wittenhagen; sister, Della Banks; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family members.
Delmar was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lila Albertson; two grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Roger Michels.
