Kirk Oehlerking, 61, of Sturgis, formerly of Letcher, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, at his home.
Funeral services were on Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Letcher.
Oehlerking died at his home Sunday, a victim of suicide. He was born Dec. 7, 1955, in Huron, to Otto, Jr. and Lola Oehlerking.
He attended schools in Letcher and Mitchell, and worked in construction until he moved to Arkansas, where he worked for the USPS. He moved to Sturgis in 2015, where he was a substitute mail carrier.
Kirk rejoiced in life’s simple pleasures, like reading a good book, walking through the woods, and watching the sun rise over his morning coffee. He loved spending time with his many family members and friends, and was best known for his kind nature and warm and generous heart.
He is survived by his wife, Angela; three daughters, Shaunta Oehlerking of Brighton, Colo., Sara (Eric) Bouchard of Blossvale, N.Y., and Samantha (Eric) Oehlerking of Milan, Italy; eight grandchildren; siblings, Bonnie Hulbert of Rapid City, Kathy (Delbert) Northrup of Mitchell, Otto III (Carol) Oehlerking of Rapid City, Dale (Elaine) Oehlerking of Brentwood, Tenn., and Jewel (Ron) Oehlerking Weilander of Sturgis; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Kyle; three nephews; and one great nephew.
