Mary Thompson, 81, of Mitchell, died Sunday, July 2, 2017, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell.
Funeral services were Saturday, July 8, at Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell, with burial at Milltown Cemetery. Visitation was Friday, July 7, at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a 7 p.m. prayer service.
Mary Ellen Thompson was born Feb. 18, 1936, to Edwin and Anne (Enloe) Hanson in Mitchell, and grew up in Artesian.
On July 5, 1956, she married Donald (Tommy) Thompson in Parkston. The couple made their home in Mitchell, where they raised five children.
Mary worked for the Methodist Hospital in Mitchell until her retirement. After retiring, she enjoyed camping, family time, and going to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s various activities.
She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mitchell.
Mary is survived by her children, Donald A. Thompson of Mitchell, Steve (Carmen) Thompson of Harrisburg, Edwin (Patti) Thompson of Mitchell, and Lori (Dan) Allen of Mitchell; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Michael; parents; three brothers; and a sister.
