Peggy Taft, 64, of Pierre, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, at her home.
Visitation with a 7 p.m. prayer service was Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Isburg Funeral Chapel. Funeral services were Thursday, Feb. 9, at Community Bible Church.
Peggy Lee (Spelbring) Taft was born on Oct. 10, 1952, at Huron, to Charles and Burnette (Knutson) Spelbring. Peggy grew up in Forestburg and graduated from high school there in 1971.
Peggy married Francis “Frenchy” Taft in Forestburg on June 1, 1974. They lived briefly in Spearfish while Frenchy finished college at BHSU, later working and living for a short time at the Taft Ranch near Norris.
In 1976, Peggy moved to Pierre. She worked as a nurse’s aide for 20 years, where her caring nature was a comfort to many in their last years. Later, Peggy worked at Oahe Inc., and prior to retiring in 2015, at Kelly’s Retirement Home as activities director.
She enjoyed reading, family gatherings, word puzzles, and could bake one of the best pecan pies around. She loved her children and grandchildren, and some of her proudest moments revolved around them.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Francis; her children, Shannon Hallock and Casey (Randi) Taft, both of Pierre; five grandchildren; sister, Shirley Olson of Artesian; and three brothers, Mike (Barb) Spelbring of Pierre, Jim (Dawn) Spelbring of Forestburg, and Rodney (Bev) Spelbring of Letcher.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Burnette; and two brothers, Donald and Edward.
