Oct. 10-13, youth from Nebraska, Wyoming, North Dakota and South Dakota attended the 75th Western Jr. Livestock Show in Rapid City.
This show was first organized in 1937 and has been an annual event since. The first show included only the feeder calf project but since that time the show has grown to include sheep, swine, dairy, goats and other projects relating to livestock production. The show was developed as a 4-H youth show to serve as a window for the livestock industry from this area and provide a competitive outlet for 4-H youth club work.
Youth also competed in Food & Consumer Sciences Judging Contests, Range Plant Identification and Public Speaking. “This is a very family oriented show to attend,” said Audra Scheel, 4-H Youth Program Advisor for Aurora, Buffalo, Jerauld and Sanborn counties. “It is great to see so many area youth attending.”

Riley Schmidt, Sanborn County: Junior Beef Showmanship – purple; Feeder Beef – fourth purple, Other Feeder Steer;
Tyler Ogle, Sanborn County: Other Feeder Steer – sixth purple.
