Dorothy Peterson, 91, of Woonsocket died Friday evening, Sept. 28 in Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, Mitchell.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3 in the Basham Funeral Home, Woonsocket with Rev. Rhonda Wellsandt-Zell officiating. Inurnment was in the Eventide Cemetery, Woonsocket. A memorial visitation was held Tuesday in the funeral home with the family present.
Dorothy was born on Aug. 15, 1921 at Harrison, Neb. to Adolph and Clara Heller. The family moved to Wyoming when she was seven, where she grew up on a ranch with seven sisters and four brothers. She attended school in Van Tassell and attended high school in Torrington.
On March 21, 1941, she married Alfred W. Peterson in Neligh, Neb. and they lived in South Dakota, Wyoming, Kansas, and back to South Dakota. They farmed in the Wolsey, Alpena and Woonsocket areas and she worked for Van Dyke Supply for 35 years. She loved to bake and have big meals at her home for her family.
She is survived by six sons, LeRoy (Myrna), Duane (Fran), Rickey (Pat) and Mark all of Woonsocket, Marvin (Kong), Brookings, and Larry (Robin), Pierre; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, three brothers and one sister.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Maureen Revelle; son-in-law, Bill Revelle; one brother and six sisters.
