Arthur LaGrange Battson, Jr., 89, of San Diego, Calif. died Sept. 14, 2012. A memorial service with military honors will be held at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery at 11 a.m. Oct. 9.
Art was born in Shreveport, La.,  Nov. 18, 1922. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1944 and served in three wars.
He married Army Lt. Rosaline Nelson of Woonsocket and Letcher, in Honolulu, H.I. Aug. 30, 1946.
Captain Battson retired from the Navy in July of 1973 after serving as commander on many different Naval vessels.
Capt. Battson was an avid golfer and bridge player. He and his wife did extensive volunteer work with local Lutheran churches and Meals on Wheels.
He is survived by his wife Rosaline; three sons, Arthur III (Kathy) of Goleta, Richard (Tracy) of Sacramento and Bradford (Stacie) of Berkeley; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
