The Artesian First Lutheran Church Women met on Oct. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the church with 11 members present. This meeting was a special celebration for Dorothy Weinberger, who has been a very active member of the women’s group for many years. Dorothy is moving and will be greatly missed.
The meeting opened with devotions based on the bus trip Joyce Olson, Judy Wormstadt and Judi Larson took to Minneapolis to tour and learn about Lutheran World Relief and Global Health Ministries. They were able to help pack kits at GHM.
Joyce Olson prepared a Power Point presentation to show everyone the facilities/warehouses that they visited. It was very interesting to see where the kits, quilts and soap that we collect locally are received in Minneapolis and how they are handled and eventually delivered overseas to the people who need them. The organizations are very efficient and have excellent distribution processes.
The Bible study, “Deborah, A Determined Leader,” was led by Kathy Peterson.
The business meeting followed and topics discussed included: Snack Pack Program (more info available on Rebel e-news); writing letters to people serving in the military; a full report of the number of quilts, kits and soap collected locally and by the whole Medary Conference; and the September Fall Retreat at Badger attended by Arlene Kelly, Deanna Dean, Joyce Olson, Pastor LeShea and Judy Wormstadt.
Upcoming activities are: Nov. 16 outing to Joy Ranch near Watertown – let Judy Wormstadt know ASAP if you wish to attend; the thank offering boxes will collected on Nov. 24; and next quilting session will be Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. at the church. The group discussed doing additional outreach projects for the Christmas season. The meeting ended with the Lord’s Prayer, the Table Blessing and lunch served by hostess Kathy Peterson.
