Marvis E. Scott, 92, of Mitchell died Monday, Dec. 9, 2013 in Firesteel Health Care Center. The funeral service was Wednesday, Dec. 11 in First Lutheran Church at Mitchell. Visitation was Tuesday Dec. 10 in Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Burial was at Trinity Lutheran Church at rural Storla.
Marvis Eleanor Scott was born Feb. 14, 1921 at rural Letcher to Andrew and Elma (Runestad) Berg. She was baptized and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church. She grew up on a farm west of Letcher and graduated from Letcher High School in 1938.
Following graduation, she attended one year of college at Augustana before pursuing a degree at Mabel Woods School of Nursing. She worked as an R.N. for various hospitals and long-term care facilities throughout her career.
Marvis married Glen C. Scott on Aug. 29, 1943, in Trinity Lutheran Church. Gwen, Larry and Dwight were born to this union.
Marvis and Glen continued to farm and raise cattle until 1958, at which time they purchased the Mitchell Sale Barn. In 1963, Marvis and Glen moved their family to a home on Lake Mitchell, giving Marvis a chance to fulfill her desire to be near water. In 1968 a move back to the farm brought Marvis and Glen again to the Storla community.
Marvis spent many hours outdoors, improving the landscape by gardening, planting trees and flowers of every kind. Marvis loved growing roses, feeding birds and entertaining friends and family with her wit and wisdom. After retiring, Marvis enjoyed spending time volunteering for community and church activities.
She is survived by her daughter, Gwen Clausius of Fontana, Wis.; son, Dwight (Ann) Scott of Mitchell; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Marian Berg, South Lake, Texas,
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen in 1984; son-in-law, Don Clausius in 1996; son, Larry in 2000; her parents; and a brother, Clayton Berg.
