OPENING
The Sanborn County Commissioners met on Monday, December 30, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. to conduct end of the year business with Vice-Chairman Ohlrogge presiding. Other members present were: Blindauer, S. Larson and P. Larson. Chairman Ebersdorfer was absent due to a death in the family. Also present was Auditor Larson. Motion by Blindauer, seconded by S. Larson, to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. Motion carried.
NEW SHERIFF VEHICLE
Auditor Larson reported on the insurance company’s offer for payment for the sheriff’s vehicle that hit a deer. Motion by Blindauer, seconded by P. Larson, to accept the offer of $3,546.76 minus the $500.00 deductible. Motion carried.
HIGHWAY
Lee Goergen, Highway Superintendent/Weed Supervisor, reported on happenings in the county. Motion by S. Larson, seconded by P. Larson, to transfer $371,513.00 from General Fund to Road & Bridge. Motion carried
BEADLE COUNTY PRISONER CARE CONTRACT
Motion by Blindauer, seconded by S. Larson, to contract with Beadle County for prisoner care for 2014 in the amount of $80.00 per day. Motion carried.
ASSIGN FUNDS
Motion by P. Larson, seconded by Blindauer, to assign $300,000 of existing funds from the General Fund for a new highway shed. Motion carried.
PLANNING AND ZONING BOARD
Mark Meyer, Director of Equalization, met with the board to request the following appointments for the Planning and Zoning Board: Two-year term – Ray Ohlrogge and Myron Sonne; Three-year term – Barry Selland and Dale Christian; and Four-year term – Bob Schmit. Motion by Blindauer, seconded by P. Larson to appoint the terms requested by Meyer. Motion carried.
CONTINGENCY TRANSFERS
Motion by S. Larson, seconded by Blindauer, to transfer the following amounts from contingency to the department named to balance for the year: Treasurer, $259.34; States Attorney, $4,583.75; 4-H Building, $130.46; Ditch 21, $3,264.99; and 24/7, $849.12. Motion carried. The board commended many departments on staying within budget.
2014 RAISE
Motion by Blindauer, seconded by S. Larson, to give a three percent raise to county employees starting January 1, 2014. Motion carried.
