Vicki Jo Jensen, 61, of Alpena, passed away peacefully at her home on Sept. 21, 2016, after a battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 26, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs. Visitation was Sunday, Sept. 25, from 5-7 p.m. at the church with a 7 p.m. prayer service.
Vicki was born April 8, 1955, to L.A. and June Larson in Wessington Springs. She attended Wessington Springs Public Schools and graduated in 1973.
On Aug. 12, 1972, she married Steve Jensen. They bought a farm 3-1/2 miles south of Alpena, where they raised their three children, Sandi, Terry and Michelle.
Vicki worked alongside her husband at Jensen Grain Company for 28 years. Once they retired from the elevator business and after caring for her parents through their illnesses, Vicki realized her passion for taking care of people in need. She went to work for Home Instead Senior Care in Mitchell for a few years, and then worked at Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket, where she held a variety of positions.
Vicki had a strong faith and was a lifetime member and servant of the United Church of Christ of Wessington Springs. After surviving cancer, she also enjoyed playing a large role in the Jerauld County Relay For Life, until her illness no longer allowed.
Vicki is survived by her husband, Steve, of 44 years; her three children, Sandi (Melinda) Jensen of Topeka, Kan., Terry (Sarah) Jensen of Woonsocket, and Michelle (Dave) Stahl of Yale; eight grandchildren; six siblings, Gary (Lydia) Larson of Sturgis, Donna Harmdierks of Huron, Roger Larson, Connie Ness, Peggi (Craig) Jensen, and Kelly (Connie) Larson, all of Wessington Springs; father- and mother-in-law, Bob and Ruth Jensen of Alpena; grandmother-in-law, Helen Hindman of Wessington Springs; sisters-in-law, Val (Glen) Hohn of Woonsocket, and Vicki (Orville) Harmdierks of Wessington Springs; brother-in-law, David (Kathy) Jensen of Alpena; and many other friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, L.A and June Larson; and a niece, Stephanie Jensen.
Arrangements were with Basham Funeral Service in Wessington Springs.
