Peter Mulder, 89, of Yankton, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4 at Riverview Reformed Church in Yankton. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Corsica, following lunch at the church.
Peter Mulder was born April 22, 1926, on the family farm in Douglas County, to William and Katie (Rus) Mulder. He grew up on the farm and attended country school in Douglas County. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1948. After his time in the service, Peter returned to Douglas County to farm.
He married Margaret Walker on Nov. 15, 1950, and to this union four children were born: Bill, Dianne, Bev and Janice. In 1969, Peter sold his farm and purchased the John Deere Implement business in Corsica, which he owned and operated until 1987. After Margaret’s death in 1988, Peter continued to live in Corsica. He married JoAnn Peterson on Nov. 23, 1990, and subsequently moved to Yankton, where he continued to enjoy buying and selling farm implements.
Peter was a generous and devoutly religious man who deeply loved children and his family and selflessly gave to those in need. He was grateful to be blessed with two wonderful wives, and his prayer was that his family would continue to live the faith he practiced and instilled in them.
Surviving family include his brother, William “Ben” (Carol) Mulder of Armour; his children, Bill Mulder of Mitchell, Dianne (Dave) Selchert of Yankton and formerly of Letcher, Bev (Dwight) Bordewyk of Parkston, and Jan (Glenn) Geraets of Mitchell; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and numerous step-children, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his two wives; and three sisters, Irene Meeter, Katie Borgman and Willamena Hoekstra.
