Leo Zapp, 88, of Carthage, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017, at New Hope, Minn.
Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 9, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage, with burial in the Pleasantview Cemetery at Carthage. Visitation was one hour prior to services at the church.
Leo was born Aug. 31, 1928, in White Rock to Martin and Katherina (Kieffer) Zapp. His family moved to the Carthage area, where he helped farm.
He was united in marriage to Arlene Aaland on March 15, 1949. The couple farmed northwest of Carthage.
Leo worked for Land of Lakes until retirement. He was a volunteer fireman and an ambulance driver for many years in Carthage.
He is survived by his children, Leon of Artesian, Randy (Cherene) of Salem, Mark (Ruth) of Clarksville, Ind., Janine (Johnny) Mason of Kenosha, Wis., Karen (Kevin) Cich of Surprise, Ariz., and Donna Kneebone of Ramsey, Minn.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty (Bruce) Redl of Sioux Falls, Tillie Endres of Chamberlain, Lottie (Clyde) Wilson of Reno, Nev., and Joyce (Edward) Johnson of Kenosha, Wis.; and other relatives and friends.
Leo was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene; daughters, Connie and Kim; brothers, Martin, John, Clarence, Eugene and Tom; and two sisters, Katherine and Arlene.
