Lyle “Heine” Fuerst, 86, of Mitchell, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at Brady Health and Rehabilitation in Mitchell.
Private family graveside services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 11, at American Legion Cemetery in Mitchell. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
Lyle Eugene Fuerst was born on Aug. 31, 1930, at Delmont, to Helmuth and Edith (Mills) Fuerst. He attended school in Mitchell.
On March 16, 1949, he married Theresa Saukerson in Mitchell. They lived in Carson, Colo., for one year while Lyle was stationed there during the Korean War. The couple returned to Mitchell, and Lyle worked at Toy Corey in the shoe repair business, where he had worked as a kid. He bought the business in 1959 and operated it for 30 years.
Lyle was a lifetime member of the American Legion, managed the Legion in Mitchell for 17 years and was Commander for Post 18. He belonged to the 40 & 8 and was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and the National Guard.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Theresa; one son, Gary of Deadwood; four daughters, Monica Evers of Mitchell, Pam Munsen of Mitchell, Tammy Fuerst (Laren Feistner) of Letcher, and Vickie Blakney (Neil Hague) of Deadwood; one sister, Irene Rearkick of Huron; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lenard; and two sisters, Delores Sheffield and Lola Potts.
